According to the press center of the ministry, a resident of Rostov at the beginning of 2020 was able to encrypt information in a cryptographic way on computers in the local network of one of the large Russian companies.

To decode the information, the attacker extorted a monetary reward in the amount of 0.8 bitcoin (more than half a million rubles at the current exchange rate).

On the basis of crimes, criminal cases have been initiated under Part 2 of Article 163 and Part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The suspect faces a fine of up to 300,000 rubles, or restriction of freedom for up to four years.
